Los Alamos National Laboratory Today

Built on more than seven decades of cutting-edge scientific innovation, the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) began with the Manhattan Project and a focus on national security. Throughout its history, LANL has produced exceptional scientific and engineering resolutions to increasingly difficult problems. Though LANL innovates in sectors as varied as theoretical physics, computing, superconductivity, bioinformatics, alternative energy, advanced materials and much more, “assuring the safety and reliability of the nation’s nuclear deterrent” remains the lab’s primary responsibility and core mission.
